Darlingtina K. Esiaka, PhD, CHET primary faculty member and UK ASCEND scholar, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship through the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. This summer, she will travel to Nigeria to collaborate with the Research Center for Ageing Cognition and Psychological Health at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Esiaka鈥檚 research explores the social determinants of health and aging in Black communities. In Nigeria, she will use mobile, wearable EEG devices鈥攁n accessible alternative to expensive brain imaging tools鈥攖o detect early signs of cognitive decline.

The project includes cross-continental collaboration with UK鈥檚 Yang Jiang, PhD, and Nigerian scholar Valentine Ucheagwu, PhD, and will support hands-on EEG training for Nigerian students and researchers. Esiaka will also mentor UK medical student Maria F. Clark during the visit, reinforcing the program鈥檚 commitment to global academic partnerships and mentorship.
